Ridgemont Elementary is proud recognize the esteemed achievements of two of its own educators. First, Ms. Natosha Roberts was selected as the new teacher of the year, formerly held by Mr. Marin Cabrera. She is our Reading 180 specialists for grades 4 & 5; and she collaborates with classroom teachers to enhance instructional and learning strategies. Ms. Roberts is passionate about what she does and works tirelessly to see results. Thank you Ms. Roberts for giving so much for the benefit of our students!

The second educator accomplishment took place on February 7, 2008. Mr. Marin Cabrera was honored to be recognized as the 2008 National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) Teacher of the Year. Mr. Cabrera received a gift check sponsored by Scholastic Books for $2,500. NABE is the only national professional organization to represent bilingual learners and bilingual education professionals. It has over 20,000 members in some 25 states. Mr. Cabrera recently stated that he chose education, after a successful career in the corporate realm, to make a difference. He has a heart for it and a sound impact. Thank you Mr. Cabrera!

Art teacher, Mrs. Wanda Anderson, submitted creative poster art of our students to the judges of the Fire Prevention Poster Contest, sponsored by the Houston Fire Museum, HEB, and others. Ridgemont Elementary had two placement winners of this contest, who along with their families were featured in the televised HEB Thanksgiving Parade in downtown Houston. Alejandro Vital (3rd grade) placed 2nd for the overall grand prize. He was the recipient of a $230.00 cash prize. His homeroom teacher is Ms. Kerrenda Brown. Elida Villegas (Kindergarten) won second place in her division and received $30.00. Her homeroom teacher is Ms. Yolanda Guedea. Ridgemont believes in encouraging our students to display their many gifts and talents! Congratulations to these students and their families!!
