PHS Facts
Progressive High School is an “Alternative School of Choice” meant to serve FBISD enrolled students (minimum of 9 weeks enrollment in a Fort Bend School) who are academically capable, but are at-risk of not graduating in 4 years. PHS offers an opportunity for these students to accelerate and complete high school at a faster pace while in an untraditional setting. Students must be capable of working independently and must be highly disciplined and motivated to earn credits and graduate or they will not be successful at PHS. ACCELERATED DIPLOMA PROGRAM • Students must be at least 16 years of age and have a minimum of five (5) credits. • Students who have not passed the applicable reading and math sections of TAKS must take the PHS entry test (ITED Survey) to determine program eligibility. • Due to the accelerated, competency based program which requires students to have strong reading skills and work independently, students must perform at an acceptable grade level (still not a strong indicator for success) in reading and math on the PHS entry test. • Students are required to demonstrate competency with a minimum of 80 on all class work and module tests in the four core classes of Science, Math, English Language Arts and Social Studies. • Each student must reapply each semester and a committee will determine reacceptance after a review of the student’s attendance, academic progress and effort as well as discipline records. An incomplete application may delay a student’s entry in the program because spaces may no longer be available when the application finally becomes complete. • Once it is determined that a student meets all requirements and is eligible for acceptance, he or she must attend the student-parent orientation before final acceptance and enrollment. Some students may be required to interview with school staff prior to acceptance, if there are issues of concern. • Students needing Content Mastery classes must have an ARD scheduled at their home campus with PHS staff attending before being accepted in order to determine if PHS is the most appropriate setting. Parents and/or students should visit with the home campus counselor for further information about the application process. All completed applications with required attached information, must be returned to Progressive High School. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

PHS Expectations
Students are expected to complete their PHS program in two years or less. Except for unusual circumstances, they will return to their home campus if this requirement is not met. Students are expected to earn a credit in each course in which they are enrolled. Attendance, behavioral, and production requirements must be met by the student in order to continue each subsequent semester. Our program is modular, competency, and reading based. Therefore, math, reading and comprehension skills are essential. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) will be administered to each student before acceptance. Students 12th grade who have passed all parts of TAKS will not have to take the exam. All other students must test on any applicable subtests before they are called for orientation. The PHS class times are from 7:55 AM to 2:00 PM daily. A shuttle from each FBISD high school campus to PHS is provided each morning and again back to each campus in the afternoon. Students are enrolled in four (4) eighty minute block classes each nine weeks, which could possibly allow them to earn up to six credits per semester. Students may accelerate according to their abilities in the competency based program.
