Welcome to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program

The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous and challenging two year program that students complete during their 11th and 12th grade years. During the two years students are required to take courses in six areas (English, French or Spanish, Individuals & Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and the Arts). Some of these classes are one year classes and some are two year classes. At the end of each class, the student takes an exam (the same exam given to students worldwide). The student receives a score ranging from 1 to 7 on each exam. Students must also complete core activities including a 4000 word research paper, participate in the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program and take a Theory of Knowledge course. Students can gain 3 points toward the diploma in these core areas. If the student has a minimum of 24 points from the exams and core activities, the IB Diploma is awarded.

IB students are well prepared for college life. The State of Texas also believes in the program as they mandated via Senate Bill 111 that public colleges and universities award IB Diploma recipients a minimum of 24 college credits. Colleges and universities worldwide recognize the IB Diploma and award students with college credit. This could mean thousands of dollars in college tuition savings.

Additionally, because students will study courses from a worldwide perspective, we believe they will become a more globally aware citizen with an appreciation for other cultures.

The requirements for the Diploma Program are:

· successful completion of two years of either French or Spanish and Algebra 2 prior to the beginning of the 11th grade year

· passing score on all sections of the most recent TAKS

· an acceptable school conduct and attendance history.

A Pre-Diploma Program is offered during the 9th and 10th grades to prepare students for the rigor of the Diploma Program.

Fort Bend ISD will provide bus transportation to students who are accepted into either program.
