Level I Foreign Language
 
Foreign languages taught for Level I credit are Spanish and French. The Level I course integrates the five Program Goals of the TEKS for Languages Other Than English: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. It is a study of language and culture incorporating the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and showing. The main goal of this course is for students to progress toward a novice level ability in using the foreign language in school and in the community.
Oral proficiency is emphasized and assessed regularly.
 
Spanish IA/French IA
High school Spanish I or French I is taught over two years in grades seven and eight. Upon successful completion of this two year-program, students will receive one high school graduation credit and grade points for Spanish I or French I. In grade seven, students are introduced to the basics of the language and culture. This course integrates the five Program Goals of the TEKS for Languages Other Than English: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and ommunities. It is a study of language and culture incorporating the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and showing. The main goal of this course is for students to progress toward a novice level ability in using the foreign language in school and in the community. Oral proficiency is emphasized and assessed regularly.
Students successfully completing Spanish IA or French IA who do not continue with Spanish IB or French IB in grade eight are not eligible to receive high school credit and grade points for high school Spanish I or French I in middle school.

**Based on the availability of a certified language teacher on campus and student course requests, other languages may be offered.
 
Spanish IB/French IB
Students who have successfully completed Spanish IA/French IA in grade seven continue Spanish/French instruction in grade eight as the second half of high school Spanish I/French I. Upon successful completion of Spanish IA & IB/French IA & IB, students receive one high school credit and should then plan to take Spanish/French II and III in high school.
