LAKE OLYMPIA 2009 - 2010 Campus Goals

DSP Goal 1: FBISD will implement strategies that result in students meeting high standards of achievement. By 2010, 80% of all economically disadvantaged students at Lake Olympia Middle School will meet the passing standard as measured by the TAKS Math test. By 2010, all 8th Grade students will achieve 75% passing standard in all sub-populations as measured by the Science TAKS test.

TalkLine “When you just need to talk”– 281-240-(TALK) 8255 FBISD’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Department is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Crisis Intervention of Houston (CIH) called TalkLine. TalkLine is a confidential helpline dedicated to the needs of FBISD secondary students. CIH is the managing partner for TalkLine and are responsible for answering calls which students place to the helpline. TalkLine gives students the opportunity to receive confidential help in a safe way. Students can also get information on social service referrals and other community assistance. Top 5 reasons students call TalkLine 1.) Relationship issues such as: break ups, arguments, bullying, harassment, abuse or family problems 2.) Basic human needs: food, clothing, shelter, unemployment issues 3.) Mental Health concerns 4.) Drug or Alcohol abuse 5.) Depression/ Suicidal thoughts

Academies ...Making a World of Difference Fort Bend Independent School District is initiating a comprehensive academy program to be housed in each of the district’s 10 high schools over the next few years. What are Academies? Academies are personalized, small learning communities that function within a larger high school with a mixture of career and academic classes offered to students. Enrollment of approximately 400 students is eventually anticipated for each academy. Students attending academies generally take more advanced math courses, more computer and technology courses and more college courses. Students interested in applying to one of the specialized academies may obtain the application packet from the guidance counselor office at each middle school and high school or in the menu to the right. Fort Bend Fabulous!

Fort Bend Fabulous! International Festival and Model Search now seeking models, volunteers, and entertainment groups. The 4th annual festival presented by the Fort Bend Education Foundation is scheduled to take place Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m. in Sugar Land Town Square. The event celebrates the tremendous diversity of cultures in our school district by highlighting their unique traditions, arts, and foods. The Fort Bend Education Foundation is partnering with Page Parkes Corporation to conduct a model search. Page Parkes is the largest model and talent agency in the southwest United States and has been instrumental in launching the careers of many famous faces. The model search is open to children in grades kindergarten through 12 residing in Fort Bend County. For application information email the Foundation at fbef@fortbend.k12.tx.us. We will accept applications on September 26th at Wheeler Field House located at 16403 Lexington Blvd. in Sugar Land. The model and talent search finale will take place from 12:00-1:00 during the festival. Representatives from Page Parkes will judge the contestants on the runway during a fashion show and on their speaking presentation. Six winners will each receive a scholarship to Page Parkes and a professional photo shoot complete with hair, makeup, and three looks. Cell Phone Policy
|
|
The possession of cell phones and/or paging devices on school property is allowed, however, the use of either device during established school hours as determined by the principal is prohibited. Devices must be kept out of sight and turned off at all times. If the device is on, it is a violation, regardless of whether or not the device is visible to staff for any amount of time.

AUP Deadline is October 1
|
|
All students must have a signed AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) in order to use a computer in FBISD. The AUP stresses the importance of the proper use of the computers and internet. The attached form was sent home in the first day packet and is in the registration packet for new students. If your student did not get the form home to you or it was lost, please print and send in to LOMS asap. After October 1, all students without a signed AUP will be unable to use a computer at LOMS.
