Description

This is the second year of the Initiative the FBISD has put into place serving teachers and students. Teachers are more closely working on recognition and implementation of new methods of instruction. As our student population has changes, we too must keep up with the requirements to make these students successful. As the SIS my responsibility is to help formulate lessons, mentor teachers as we train them in these new methods of instruction and assessment, and gather data for implementation and review purposes to help pave the path for student success. It is all about empowering teachers to meet students in the learning society of today.

Twenty-six years in the classroom from Kindergarten to High School and even 7 years as Teaching Assistant in College Field Biology and Geology Programs. My educational career has given me a great amount of opportunity to include guest participation in NSTF workshops in various states. Through these opportunities I have been a participant in changing curriculum in our classrooms to meet the students interests/needs and facilitate success. The teachers here at LOMS are willing to try new methods and monitor student success. I feel very fortunate to work with these ladies and gentleman. Thier growth metacognitively is going to ensure the success of thier students. This is not an easy process to loose what you know and start fresh with what is unproven to you the leader of the class. Yet these concepts are data driven and being implemented with the Learning to Lead Center/Doug Reeves.

It is essential that the parents of today’s students come and see what is taking place in the classrooms of today. The instructional level is so much different, sudents are be coached. Students are performing knowledge each and everyday. The are applying it at higher levels with application and synthesis. Teachers are learning more about the students prior knowledge and what misconceptions they may have, then extending the basic knowledge to its fullest based upon the TEKS.

SO if you have not started observing your child's science classroom, start soon so that you can become as excited as the teachers are as these changes take place. And together we will take these students to new levels for future success.
