It is the mission of Lantern Lane Elementary to accept each child as an individual and provide for his/her maximum cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. In order that this mission be realized, Lantern Lane Elementary will provide a positive atmosphere that centers on the general welfare of the whole child and promotes the highest possible academic achievement.

The school day begins at 7:50 a.m. When the 8:00 a.m. bell rings and the students are not in their classrooms, they must come to the office to get a tardy slip. Students are counted absent if they arrive after 10:00 a.m. All students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

Lantern Lane Elementary School was built in 1978 and occupied in January of 1979. Our students, faculty and staff were housed at Blueridge Elementary and were anxiously waiting for Lantern Lane to open its doors.
 
Mr. B. J. Baines was the first principal of Lantern Lane, followed by Dr. R. Robertson, Dr. James Reuter, Bruce Drennan, Ms. Valerie Orum, and Ms. Sheila Emery our current principal. One of our original teachers is still here - Coach Larry Cernoch.
 
We are a neighborhood school. Most of our students walk, ride their bikes or their parents drive them to school. School Bus transportation is provided for the Quail Green South and The Woods sub-divisions. School bus transportation is also provided for those students that are zoned to us that live on Cartwright.
