Welcome to Third Grade

Let the learning begin! Here at Highlands, third grade students will be reading from a variety of genres including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. They will utilize "The Six Traits of Writing" with an emphasis on complete sentences and paragraphs. Good penmanship is important as we transition to cursive handwriting. Math concepts include: place value, telling time, estimation, graphing, and problem solving using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Social studies focuses on communities around us and citizenship. In science our primary study is physical science. We also work hands-on with plants, matter, and space. Learning is a top priority in third grade.
