Our History
Highlands Elementary opened its doors in 1986 with approximately 450 students. Mrs. Barbara Kulpinsky was the school’s first principal and remained at the helm until her retirement in December 2006. We have grown tremendously over the years and now have an estimated enrollment of about 600 students. Today, our administrative team consists of Dr. Latecha Bogle, our school’s Principal, and Mr. Thomas Bellard, our school’s Assistant Principal, for the past 2 years, they work collaboratively with the school’s faculty and staff members empowering ALL students to achieve their maximum potential while simultaneously, enabling them to live successful and fulfilling lives. Highlands currently has one PPCD classroom, an AM session and PM session of Pre-Kindergarten, four full-day Kindergarten classes, and a total of twenty-four 1st through 5th grade classes. We also have three ESL teachers, two Reading Recovery teachers, a Reading Specialist, a part-time Instructional Technology Specialist and a part-time Math Specialist. Our school has the best PTO in the world! They are a large part of what makes Highlands such a wonderful place to learn and work. Please visit their web site to find out more about our school, our wonderful teachers, and our fantastic programs!

Melodie Beattie once said, “Goals are gratitude in action. They give us the opportunity to build on what we already have. While achieving goals can be a lengthy process, we can learn to be grateful for each stage in the process of setting and meeting goals.” On a daily basis, the Highlands faculty and staff works tirelessly to achieve the ultimate goal, ‘empowering ALL students to achieve their maximum potential by enabling them to live successful and fulfilling lives.’
