SPANISH IA / FRENCH IA High school Spanish I or French I is taught over two years in grades seven and eight. Upon successful completion of this two year program, students will receive one high school graduation credit and grade points for Spanish 1 or French 1. In grade seven, students are introduced to the basics of the language and culture in Spanish 1A or French 1A. The course provides sequential instruction in the TEKS for development toward proficiency in oral and written Spanish or French. The emphasis of instruction is on developing vocabulary and oral proficiency skills. Students successfully completing Spanish 1A or French 1A who do not continue with Spanish 1B or French 1B in grade eight are not eligible to receive high school credit and grade points for high school Spanish 1 or French 1 in middle school. EXPLORATORY LANGUAGES 6th Grade This elective offers a cultural experience for students through the study of the conversational languages, Spanish, French and Japanese. Each language will be taught over a twelve week period.
