Welcome to English Language Arts
SIXTH GRADE: During sixth grade, the students will locate information and question in order to do research to present an oral/written product for various audiences using visual aids and/or media. Students will listen and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences, adjusting content and delivery to fit. Use word recognition/definition strategies to learn new words found in their reading of fiction and nonfiction. Read to develop higher-level thinking skills by using a variety of strategies to check for understanding. Recognize the unique features of all types of literature, both fiction and nonfiction. Respond to, apply, and evaluate various types of literary devices, such as, style, tone, and mood. Read about, describe, and talk about themes and connections within and across cultures. Study classical and contemporary literature. Write for a variety of purposes and audiences. Use correct grammar in speaking and writing. Use media as well as technology to interpret, analyze, and produce visual images and messages. Use the writing process to create, revise, and edit written work to produce a final product.
