Welcome to Technology Education

TECH ED I: (7th and 8th Grade)
In this course for seventh and eighth grade boys and girls, students study various forms of technology through co-operative activities and traditional instruction units.

Units of instruction include: Orientation, Sketching, Engineering Drafting, Safety and Power machine use, Woodworking projects, Floor Plan Design and Model construction, Bridge Design and consruction.
 
Freehand sketching is used to introduce drawing as a form of communication. Basic measurement is reviewed and use of simple scales are used. Drafting tools, such as, t-squares and triangles are used to draw geometric designs, 3-D pictorial drawings, one-view and three-view drawings. They also draw product designs that are used to build various projects in the shop area.
 
Use of hand tools, portable and stationary power machine safety is reviewed prior to a safety test and actual product manufacturing in woodworking.
 
All students are to bring a pencil with eraser daily to class. Class work is kept in a portfolio type folder with metal brads and side pockets.

TECH ED II:(8th Grade, Prerequisite: Intro. Tech I)
In this course, second year students continue their study of technology as they gain knowledge and skill of processes and techniques. They investigate, apply, design, produce and access innovative projects.

Review of sketching, measurement, scales, lettering and drafting tools. Advanced drawing will include use of compass to draw engineering problems. The woodworking products will vary. This class will design and construct a model commercial building and design and test straw towers.
