This course covers the period of United States development from its colonial beginnings through the Civil War to 1877. The second half of the course, from 1877 to the present, is taken in high school. The key themes of the course are the challenges Americans faced in forging a new nation. Through reading, writing and discussion, students will be expected to analyze social studies relationships, interpret data, form generalizations and conclusions, and use problem solving and decision making skills. Computer Literacy skills are integrated into the U.S. History curriculum.
