Eighth Grade Math Students in grade 8 mathematics will continue to extend and build upon their foundation of basic understandings of number, operation, and quantitative reasoning, patters, relationships, an algebraic thinking: geometry and spatial reasoning, measurement, probability and statistics and problem solving. The areas of emphasis are using algebraic principles to analyze proportional relationships and using probability to describe data and make predictions. Students will continue to experience opportunities to use models, manipulative and data collection and interpretation using appropriate technology. Problem solving, communication, connections of concepts both within and outside mathematics, and informal and formal reasoning will be emphasized. This course is designed to successfully prepare students for Algebra 1 in ninth grade.
