CLINIC PROCEDURES
When a student feels ill and wants to go to the clinic, he/she must get a pass from his/her teacher. If the student feels ill between classes, he/she should get a pass from his/her next period teacher.

The student must sign-in upon arrival to the clinic. When leaving the clinic, the student must sign-out the time leaving on the log and also get their pass signed showing the time.

First aid will be administered when needed. A parent will be notified if the student is unable to remain at school or if an emergency arises requiring that he/she be taken immediately to a doctor or emergency facility. If the student must be transferred to a hospital before the parent arrives, a school representative will remain with him/her until the parent or designated person arrives.

A student is not allowed to remain in school if he/she has the following symptoms:

• a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher
• a suspected contagious disease
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• an undetermined rash
• feeling too ill to remain in school

To prevent exposing other students to disease, a student should not come to school if he/she has the following symptoms:
• vomiting or diarrhea the morning before school
• an undetermined rash
• a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher within the past 24 hours

If a student must leave school because of illness, the parent is responsible for transportation. If a parent cannot be reached, the alternative people listed on the student’s current emergency card may be contacted.

MEDICATIONS
All medications (prescribed and over-the counter) must be in the original container and brought to the clinic by the parent. The parent must also provide and sign written instructions. Medications are supervised by the nurse or the clinic assistant and should be taken between classes whenever possible. Medications to be taken for more than 15 days must also have doctor’s signed instructions. For prescription medications, a second container can be obtained from your pharmacist so only the appropriate amount of medication is delivered to school. When a medication is no longer needed, a parent/guardian must pick it up from the clinic or it will be destroyed.

Please call the nurse to discuss any medications your child may need during the school day.

RETURNING TO SCHOOL AFTER ILLNESS OF INJURY
Upon returning to school after an absence, the student must bring a note from the parent/guardian explaining absence and give it to the attendance clerk

All students with a contagious disease must be checked by the school nurse before re-entering school.

TEMPORARY DISABILITIES
Any student who needs assistance with moving around the school must bring a note from his/her parent/guardian or a physician’s statement describing the disability or modifications needed in his/her regular educational programs or activities. Five minute passes may be issued to assist the student avoid crowed halls and/ or physical education limitations will be given as indicated.
