APPLIED MATH I-IV

The Applied Math courses are acceptable alternatives to the required math courses.

The Applied Math I course follows selected TEKS elements of the math curriculum that relate to skills in all operations of whole numbers. More complex skills, such as measurement, are developed when appropriate. Goals of this course are to develop a logical understanding of mathematics and to relate the use of mathematics to everyday living.

The Applied Math II course reinforces knowledge gained in Applied Math I and extends this knowledge through additional objectives, if appropriate. Basic operational skills are reinforced and maintained. More complex skills with decimals and fractions are taught in this course.

The Applied Math III course includes basic math skills for practical everyday use. Students will study comparing prices, bargaining, and shopping skills required of a consumer. The course will teach skills leading to effective money management, personal budgeting, credit buying, and banking.

The Applied Math IV course includes basic math skills that are used in pre-algebra. Students will perform simple equations, graphing, work with positive and negative intergers and basic geometric measurements.
