English Language Arts In grade 6, students master previously learned reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing skills in increasingly complex presentations, reading selections, and written compositions. Sixth grade students take notes during oral presentations and summarize spoken messages. Students read widely in classic and contemporary selections and informational texts. Students use study strategies and complete research projects and reports. Students use different forms of writing and more complex grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization strategies to produce error-free compositions on a regular basis. Gifted and Talented classes emphasize language study, problem solving and advanced reading and research. Students produce high level critical and creative products. English Language Arts In grade 7, students refine and master previously learned reading, wrtiting, listening, speaking, viewing and representing skills in increasingly complex presentations, reading selections, and written compositions. Seventh grade students analyze and evaluate a speaker’s message, credibility and delivery. Students read widely in classic and contemporary selections and informational texts. Students select and use different forms of writing, varied sentence structure and more complex verb tense, grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization to improve their writing. Students produce error -free compositions on a regular basis. Students draw data from multipl sources for use in research and projects. Gifted and Talented classes emphasize language study, problem solving and advanced reading and research. Students produce high level critical and creative products and performances. English Language Arts In grade 8, students refine and master previously learned reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing skills in increasingly complex presentations, reading selections, and written compositions. Eighth grade students continue to read widely in classic and contemporary selections and informational texts. Students select and use different forms of writing for specific purposes. Students produce multi-paragraph compositions with varied sentence structure and use their knowledge of grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization to improve their writing and produce error-free compositions on a regular basis. Students write research reports and present oral and written reports using visuals and media.
