Welcome to FIRST GRADE

It’s been a busy nine weeks of learning in first grade. PAPIs and DRAs have been completed and we are excited to be in guided reading groups and working at literacy workstations. We are learning how to retell, make connections, and use reading strategies. In Writing Workshop, first graders are learning how good authors write stories with a sense of beginning, middle, and end. It’s really fun writing in our Treasure Books each day!
Also, we are learning about Character Education. We have learned that character is how we act and treat others. We have also learned that excellence is striving to do one's personal best.
We have studied Christopher Columbus, and we have learned about fire prevention and safety. Apples, pumpkins, and scarecrows are everywhere in first grade as we are learning about seasonal changes. We have sorted, counted and graphed our apples and pumpkins, also.
Our Science Butterfly Kits have arrived. We’re learning safe lab practices as we watch our caterpillars growing and changing. We are observing the caterpillars and the chrysalis with our hand lenses, and are excited to watch our butterflies emerge from their chrysalis. Indeed, knowledge is leading the way as we catch the wave of the future!
