Welcome to Geometry
Geometry Advanced Course Description The Advanced Geometry course emphasizes logical thinking and its application to real-life situations. Students solve problems by synthetic (traditional), coordinate, and/or transformational methods. Problem solving applies the algebra previously learned. Students are expected to execute the appropriate techniques needed to complete their work. Computer labs allow investigation of patterns and relationships. The semesters are outlined below: Materials Textbook – Glencoe’s Geometry Pencils and pen Notebook paper Scientific calculator Evaluation Each nine-weeks grade is determined by a minimum of three major grades and a minimum of six daily grades. Major grades include tests and most projects. Daily grades include participation, homework checks, quizzes, classwork, small group work, and some projects. The major grade average and the daily grade average will each count as 50%of the nine-weeks grade. Each semester grade is determined by adding the two 9-weeks averages twice and the semester exam and then dividing by 5. Therefore, each nine weeks grade is 40% of the semester average and the semester exam is 20%.
