Students at Barrington Place Elementary are very fortunate to have a large amount of technology available to them. Within their classroom, there are 4 multimedia computers, one of which is connected to a television for instructional purposes. The teachers use the computers in their classrooms as teaching tools and the students use the computers to complete various projects integrated within their curricular studies. We are adding more classroom computers all the time! In addition to the classroom computers, we have several other technology tools available for checkout through the school's library. One of the tools available for checkout is the AlphaSmart. AlphaSmarts are portable keyboards that students can use to practice typing and/or word processing skills. We also have 3 SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboards on campus that teachers can use in their classrooms. One of the interactive whiteboards belongs to the Special Eduation department on campus. The interactive whiteboards provide a tactile-kinesthetic method for students to interact with various curricular resources that they can traditionally access through a computer. The Computer Lab at Barrington Place Elementary houses 27 multimedia computers. The teachers meet with Ms. Nahas to plan technology integrated projects which integrate their curricular objectives with the state's mandated Technology Application Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Ms. Nahas is on campus every other week (she is assigned two elementary schools in the district). During the weeks that Ms. Nahas is on campus, she assists classes with technology projects in the Computer Lab and in the classroom. She also trains the entire faculty and staff by holding various training sessions during the school day, after school, and during district and campus staff development days. Many teachers are learning technology skills right along with their students! The students and teachers at Barrington Place Elementary are becoming technology superstars!
