Mrs. Ernest Named as Teacher of the Year Finalist

Congratulations to Mrs. Poonam Ernest for being named as one of the finalists for FBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Ernest teaches our autistic students and is in her second year at BMS. She will be recognized at the district’s annual Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet in April. This marks the second time in our short four year history that a BMS teacher has been a district finalist for this award! Mr. Fickel earned this distinction in the 2007-08 school year. We wish Mrs. Ernest the best of luck as she competes at the next level of the Teacher of the Year selection process

BMS International Festival

One of the district's greatest strengths lies in its cultural diversity. Students in FBISD schools represent countries from around the world, and Billy Baines Middle School mirrors that same diversity. It is for this reason that such richness in cultures should be explored, experienced, and celebrated. On April 9, 2010, BMS will host an International Festival that will feature a cultural exhibition and a multicultural artistic program. For more information click on the "Related Document" below.

News from the Nurse

To all 6th grade parents, this is to inform you of the new guidelines that the state of Texas passed last year regarding new immunization requirements. Beginning this year incoming 7th graders were required to get Tdap, meningitis, and varicella (or proof of chickenpox disease). So make sure if you are going to the doctor over the holiday or between now and the start of the next school year (2010-2011) you get these for your 6th grader. If your child has already had these immunization please furnish the school with a copy for their records. 7th graders will not be allowed to start next school year if they are not up to date on their immunizations. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me @281-634-6884. Please read the 'Related Document' for the new immunizations requirements for all students entering 7th grade.
Sincerely,
Peg Adamczak, RN BSN
