First Grade

Course Description

In first grade, students spend their time developing print concepts, phonemic awareness, letters and sound correspondences. First graders participate in read-alouds, shared, guided, independent, and interactive reading and writing.
 
In math, students will use whole numbers to describe and compare quantities. We will write and solve addition and subtraction problems. We will introduce and reinforce patterns, graphing, sorting, and measurement.
 
In social studies, students will demonstrate an understanding of history, customs, community symbols, maps, charts, and the value of work.
 
In science, students will exhibit an understanding of organisms, scientific processes, and the use of tools to acquire data.
