Welcome to NJROTC

CHOOSE TO LEAD, CHOOSE TO SUCCEED!
 
The Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Program is one of the most unique and interesting programs offered at S.F. Austin HS. The purpose of our program is “To instill in students the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment”
 
BENEFITS OF THE NJROTC PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
**COLLEGE CREDITS – 2 credits per year offered by University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Credits transferable to other institution as general elective credits.
**NJROTC satisfies 1 ½ PE credits toward graduation
**NJROTC counts as elective toward graduation
**NO REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY SERVICE after graduation
**Opportunity to develop leadership skills which can be used in any career
**For those considering military service after school you can enlist at a higher paygrade
**ROTC scholarships available for qualified cadets
**Nomination to Service Academies for qualified cadets
**Recognition of accomplishments – ribbons, medals, certificates
**Opportunity to be involved – great on college and scholarship applications and on job resumes
**Uniforms provided at no cost
 
Goals of NJROTC include:
 
*Promote patriotism
*Develop informed and responsible citizens
*Promote habits of orderliness and precision
*Develop a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, self-discipline and leadership
*Develop respect for and an understanding of the need for constituted authority
*Provide incentives to lead healthy and drug free lives
*Develop leadership potential
*Promote high school completion
*Provide information on the military services as a possible career
 
The NJROTC Curriculum includes:
 
Military Drill, Maritime History, Nautical Sciences, Naval Knowledge, Naval Skills,
Leadership Theory and Leadership Laboratory
 
NJROTC Unit Activities:
 
Team Activities – Armed Drill, Unarmed Drill, Color Guard, Air Rifle, Physical Fitness, Orienteering and Academics. Teams compete at drill meets throughout Texas. Participation on a team, however, is not required to be a member of the Unit.
 
Social Activities – Unit Picnic, Winter Ball, Awards Banquet, and End of Year Trip
Community Service –Unit participates in events sponsored by Keep Sugar Land Beautiful and Hermann Park
 
Leadership Experience – No other organization at S.F. Austin HS offers as many practical leadership opportunities as our NJROTC program. Basic LeadershipTraining and Leadership Academy camps offered during summer.
