Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten

Welcome to pre-kindergarten! Your child is eligible for pre-k if he/she is 4 years old by September first of the current school year. Eligibility is also based upon proof of low income or an oral language test. The oral language test is an English test given to determine limited English proficiency.
 
Pre-kindergarten is a half day program. At Arizona Fleming, Pre-k Bilingual has one session from 8-11 a.m. Pre-k ESL (English as a Second Language) has two sessions, one from 8-11 a.m. and from 12-3 p.m.
 
In pre-kindergarten students are given opportunities to learn and explore while developing their oral language and social skills. The following is an example of some of the activities students may participate in on a typical day:
• singing and movement activities
• learning centers
• News of the Day
• math activities such as sorting, basic patterns, one-to-one correspondence, counting and number recognition
• science activities such as bubbles, color mixing, sequencing, animal life, plant growth
• language activities such as letter and sound recognition, alphabet activities, free-writing and reading, recognizing and writing names
• social studies activities such as dramatic play, games, self-help skills
• Storytime
• acting-out books and stories
• making up stories
 
Tuesday folders are sent home on a weekly basis and are a main source of communication between teachers and parents. Included in this website you will find other helpful resources for you to use at home. With your help and support, pre-k can be an exciting year of growth and learning for your child!
