Kempner High School News

Newsweek magazine releases its yearly rankings of the top 6 percent of all high schools in the United States. This list includes all public schools as well as charter and selective entry magnet public schools. Kempner High School moved up from #1593 in 2009 to #1093 in 2010.
 
This puts us in the top 4 percent (96th percentile) of high schools in the USA, including many of which have selective enrollment
 
Take a moment and let that thought settle in, great job KHS!

See attached document for a comparison of the 2010 Preliminary KHS TAKS vs the State of Texas results. These scores are prior to Texas Projection Measure (TPM) adjustments. Document also includes the final reportable TAKS results which include TPM. KHS set new records in all TAKS areas this year with and without the TPM adjustment.

Next month, our kids will have lots of free time on their hands and will most certainly spend more much more time on the internet. The goal of Internet Safety Month is to promote awareness of the dangers of the internet to teenagers. Classroom teachers throughout the district will engage students in thought-provoking discussions about topics such as:
• Being careful so as not to give out personal information on the internet
• Facebook and the privacy issues surrounding this and other popular social networking sites
• Meeting strangers online
• Avoiding phishing scams
• Cyberbullying and the damage that can be done by posting a derogatory statement online about another student
