New vaccine requirements this year for entering kindergarten students are: MMR - 2 doses, Hepatitis A - 2 doses, and Varicella - 2 doses or proof of chickenpox disease. Some pediatrician offices may not be aware of these new school requirements, so please check with your child's doctor now to ensure that your child enrolling in kindergarten for 2009-2010 has all of the required vaccines. Birthday Treats!

Dear Parents:
The Texas Department of Agriculture made some revisions to the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy. Specifically, the new information states:

TDA recognizes that celebrating student birthdays with a classroom party is a time-honored tradition that provides the opportunity for parental involvement in the education of their children, which is beneficial for students, parents and teachers. Foods otherwise restricted by the policy are permitted at student birthday parties. It is recommended such parties be scheduled after the end of the last lunch period so that these celebrations will not replace a nutritious lunch. Federal regulations do not permit foods of minimal nutritional value to be served in the food service area during meal periods.

Fort Bend ISD board policy states that there will be only 2 parties during the school year: the holiday party in December and the Valentine’s Day party in February. Consequently, birthday “parties” are not celebrated at school in Fort Bend ISD. However, parents may now acknowledge their child’s birthday with the traditional cupcakes, cookies, or cake (or any other snack) immediately following lunch in the cafeteria. In other words, we will continue to do what we have always done with regard to this topic. Please be sure to contact the classroom teacher in advance if you plan to bring up a birthday snack for your child.

Please refer to the attached document for guidelines.
