Austin HS Earns No Place for Hate ® Recognition!
|
|
For the sixth consecutive year, Austin High School has earned recognition as a No Place for Hate ® campus. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) awards this prestigious honor to schools that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and combating prejudice and discrimination. In order to receive the award, schools must form a coalition of individuals to implement activities to promote respect, social responsibility, and diversity awareness. All faculty, staff, and students must sign the Resolution of Respect which appears in the student handbook. In addition, the campus must complete at least three activities to promote respect and diversity. The character education committee, chaired by Susan Lazarou, worked with a team of students to develop the activities which include: dog bones; You Make a Difference Awards; posters, flyers, and artwork depicting themes of diversity and friendship; a diversity survey with announcements about various countries represented by AHS students; a library display “Reflecting the World: Diversity at AHS.” The game represents spirit, dedication, and hard work of the individuals and clubs in achieving a common goal. The Commander Baker softball game is the final activity for the year. The ADL will present the banner to the AHS community at the game on April 7 at 6pm. Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students of Austin HS!
