District Awards and Accomplishments
The Washington Post ranked Clements, Austin, Kempner, Travis, Dulles, Hightower and Elkins High Schools as seven of the Top 2011 High Schools in the Nation. These schools represent the top 6 percent of all public high schools in the nation. Rankings are determined by a combination of their number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge (AICE) tests given at the schools, compared to the number of graduation seniors.
Fort Bend ISD is the only school district in the nation to be named a 2011 National School District of Character by the National Schools of Character Program in Washington DC—and only one of two districts in Texas to be honored with this designation.
Four Fort Bend ISD musical ensembles ranked at the top among all orchestra and band programs in the state at the annual Texas Orchestra Directors Association and Texas Bandmasters Association Conventions in San Antonio. Fort Settlement Middle School’s Honors Band and the String Orchestras at Sartartia Middle School, Clements and Austin High Schools all received high honors at the competitions. Awards are as follows:
- Sartartia Middle School String Orchestra – named 2011-2012 Texas CCC Middle School Honor String Orchestra
- Clements High School Symphony Orchestra – 2nd place, High School 5A Honor Full Orchestra competition
- Austin High School Symphony Orchestra – 6th place, High School 5A Honor Full Orchestra competition
- Fort Settlement Middle School Honors Band – 2nd place, Class CCC Middle School Honor Band Competition
Fort Bend ISD has been named a 2011 “Best Community for Music Education” by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). The District was recognized for its leadership in providing school-based, music education programs to young people in our community.
Forty-seven Fort Bend ISD high school students were selected as 2011 Texas All State Musicians by the Texas Music Educators Association. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.
The National Center for Educational Achievement recognized Fort Bend ISD for having 12 schools to make the 2011 NCEA Higher Performing Schools List. NCEA's identification of Higher Performing Schools comprises fewer than 10 percent of public schools in the state.
Children at Risk evaluated and ranked 144 high schools, 265 middle schools, and 589 elementary schools in the Greater Houston area. Five Fort Bend ISD schools were recognized in the top 2011 Children at Risk ranking lists. Among them: Walker Station Elementary ranked 1st and Commonwealth Elementary ranked 2nd for Top 10 elementary schools; Fort Settlement Middle School ranked 3rd and Sartartia Middle School ranked 7th among Top 10 middle schools; and Clements High School ranked 8th for high schools and 3rd for Top high schools in science and mathematics.
Five Fort Bend ISD schools – Clements High School, Fort Settlement and Commonwealth, Drabek and Walker Station Elementary Schools – were recognized as 2011 Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll schools. They are among only 253 of Texas schools that were honored for 2011, representing less than 4 percent of our state’s public schools.
The Texas Education Agency awarded Fort Bend ISD with a total of 226 Gold Performance Acknowledgements for 2011, which is based upon students’ performance on the 2011 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. The District received recognition in four categories: Attendance, College-Ready, Commended Social Studies, and Texas Success Initiative in math.
The Fort Bend ISD AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program has been named an Exemplar Program by the Texas High School Project Grant Program for providing innovative instruction to enhance college readiness, career and technical education, and professional development designed to serve high-need students.
For the 12th consecutive year, FBISD has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers’ Association and the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award by the Association of School Business Officials International.
FBISD is proud to have received a seventh-consecutive rating of “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability rating system. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest demonstrating the quality of Fort Bend ISD’s financial management and reporting system.
